8 Week Session announced for Winter/Spring 2012!
CLASS TITLE: IMPROVISATION/TECHNIQUE
AND PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF TECHNIQUE THRU MONOLOGUE STUDY
Being comfortable on stage, as if you are living there, losing self consciousness and immersing in the given circumstances; this should be the key aim in any acting class. Actors at every level are always striving to achieve these goals and/or to surpass what they have accomplished in the past. In this class we aim to help you learn or improve skills. Meisner and Stanislavski based techniques will be used to get your mind, heart and body working together. Improvisational exercises, and basic theatre games will also be incorporated providing a set of skills that will help you listen and react truthfully, responding with your own inner voice. As the class progresses, monologues will be utilized to demonstrate applied technique. Actors will be able to grow at their own pace. Monologues will behanded out, to those who do not have material they are currently working on.

INFO YOU SHOULD KNOW-
Gateway Playhouse is one of only three fully professional theaters on Long Island. After 62 years in operation, in 2011 The Performing Arts Center of Suffolk County began managing and presenting the Main Stage Season shows, the Acting School Division and all events at The Gateway. This is a not for profit corporation. We look forward to working with them to increase our outreach into the community.
To understand the scope of a professional theater in a regional setting, the Actors employed on Gateway’s Main Stage are professionals, discovered thru rigorous auditions in Manhattan every year, per show. The Acting School Division is geared for the local community. Our classes are designed to train the progressing actor, and introduce the novice to the skills and techniques required for straight plays and comedies, television and film. Our class focus will vary per session, each running with intermittent breaks thru out the year. The current class, will be geared to those with a broad range of experience, who are seeking individual technique training while exploring solo performance thru text.
The current Acting School Division has been going strong for seventeen years, however the Bellport theater has always been a training ground for young actors, dating back to the original seasons where the likes of Gene Hackman, James Darren, Ken Howard and Robert Duvall were in residence.
The current Acting School Director and Founder, Robin Joy Allan, brought professional acting training to the area after returning from Los Angeles where she worked in the entertainment industry, casting TV Pilots and Feature Films. To her credit: LORD OF THE FLIES, GHOST, PARENTHOOD, WHEN HARRY MET SALLY, LICENSE TO KILL, SIDE OUT, MY TALK SHOW, WITNESS TO THE EXECUTION, CUTTERS, ME & NICK, KNIGHTS OF THE CITY, THE OUTSIDERS TV SERIES amongst others. Robin was instrumental in the early careers of Leonardo DiCaprio, Balthazar Getty, Tobey Maguire, Alicia Silverstone, Thora Birch, Joaquin Phoenix, and Benecio Del Toro and James Badge Dale, as a sampling.
"The longevity of the theatre and the experience of the staff provide a unique opportunity for local drama enthusiasts to acquire guidance and training from those who know the level of performance necessary to compete on a professional level. " C. Lentz 2006
