    About Our Mission

The Performing Arts must be a medium that sustains through time for future generations. The tolerance, awareness and compassion for others and the world at large, sparked by watching or participating in live theater, is essential to humanity. The art of the stage, the human art, is one that has been provided by the Gateway family and sponsored by you, the theater arts patron, since 1950. Gateway Playhouse is the oldest professional theater on Long Island and one of the only surviving summer theaters in the nation. This year, to continue that theatrical tradition and to ensure production quality can soar to new heights, we are proud to announce that the Gateway Playhouse 2011 Season, and future seasons, will be brought to you by the newly formed Performing Arts Center of Suffolk County. The legacy of professional theater, and theater arts training for young actors that has persevered for 62 years, will now have an opportunity to grow and reach more young theater artists and theater art appreciators through the assistance of grants and public funding. A performing arts arena can provide a focal point for a community’s culture base. The Performing Arts for young people can provide them a safe haven with which to express their individuality and gain confidence and creative independence that they can take with them through life. The benefits of this wonderful art form can be far reaching. We are looking ahead with much enthusiasm and welcome you to join us as we embark on this new passage.
